Once a relatively rare product, its use has become more common in recent years because it can hold water very well without adding a lot to its weight. Coir dust, also known as coir pith, is a by product of the Coir fibre extraction process from coconut husk. It’s a completely natural, organic product.
Before manufacturing a bale or tiny block, coir dust composted or old mulched dust is gathered, filtered, and dried. It’s a spongy cellulose organic plant growing media that can be found in garden centres, horticulture, and nurseries. This has a high ability for retaining water for plant growth. In water, this block/bale dissolves quickly. Coir dust bales are available individually wrapped in polythene or in raw block form.
